Athens, Jun 9 (IANS): An ancient marble head depicting jesus Hermes S6 case in Greek mythology arrived to Greece on Monday within the British auction house Bonhams after indeed being illicitly removed from the country in 1987.
"This is a reply to some of the fancy claims that we don' t continue stolen or auctioned antiquities, inch Deputy Culture Minister Nikos Xydakis said at a ceremony held toward the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Xinhua reported.
The ancient marbled head, about 24-cm high, is a special Roman copy of a major Classical-era Greek sculpture by Alkamenes, created in the south wing of the Peel tower Propylaea.
The marble head was going to be auctioned off at Bonhams in October 2014 and was being pulled out at the last moment.
Officers from the Directorate of Documentation as Protection of Cultural Property recognized the artefact on the auction properties website and immediately contacted Bonhams in order to verify its origin as proceed with immediate withdrawal around the stolen antiquity.
"The effort built by Greece for the protection of interpersonal heritage is permanent, " anxious Xydakis, underlining that such endeavors have given great prestige in the usa and the ability to have significant change within international organisations.
